Spare Server Scheme – Devon and Cornwall
Finn Consultants run a spare server scheme in Devon and Cornwall. This is a service where we hold a number of spare servers for clients that subscribe to the scheme in case one or more of their servers fail or are damaged by other disaster.
We don’t just hold servers, subscribers also have access to other key equipment should theirs fail, for example network switches, ADSL routers, firewall routers etc.
The service is available to businesses, public sector and other organisations across Devon and Cornwall (and beyond by prior arrangement). There is no tie in, the subscription is monthly and can cancel at any time.
The Scheme
When you subscribe we recommend that you instruct our consultants to inspect your current equipment, backup strategy and software. We will make recommendations to help ensure a rapid recovery on failure and if you take these up we can supply, install and implement the solution (the correct solution can allow us to recover your server as little as 30 minutes).
Your company pays a small monthly fee to subscribe to the service, usually averaging £35 per month, but varies depending on your server requirements.
We hold suitable replacement equipment off site for subscribers, should their server fail we will supply our server to you urgently, and if you wish recover your data to us, it can be retained for a reasonable period until a replacement server or parts can be sourced. Should you wish you also have the option to purchase the server from us or rent it indefinitely.
We recommend that you instruct our consultants to recover the server for you, however if you have your own in house IT department they are welcome to do so.

Regulatory / Accreditation Requirements
We can help you comply with Regulatory & Quality Accreditation requirements, for example the Disaster Recovery planning requirements of the Law Society Lexcel Standard v4 (we also offer a full disaster recovery planning service).
Additional Services
We can provide a more extensive service, for example the ability to install new replacement workstations rapidly, a full set of standby equipment, servers to enable home working should your offices be unavailable. These customised solutions can be discussed further should you wish.
